Cheap home decor doesn't have to look cheap. Here are a few basic tips to help you get started with decorating your home.
1. Trust yourself - Remember, you will know more about what looks good for your home than you think.
2. Identify Focal Points - Look for focal points in your rooms. This is normally the largest, or most important element in a room, such as the fireplace in the living room. It can also be less obvious elements, such as a large window that overlooks a garden or beautiful tree.
Once you have identified your focal point, use furnishings and décor to draw someone’s eye to it, or arrange furniture around it. And remember, the television should not be the focal point of every room in your house.
3. Develop a Theme - Themes can be a fun way to liven up your decor. You can choose a theme for the entire house, or themes that change from room to room. Some examples might be pastel colors throughout the house, or a French Country kitchen. Once you have your theme, you can search through the web to get ideas on how to implement it.
4. Put a Plan Together - Finding cheap home decor can be a daunting task, and a good plan will help you minimize stress and get past the ‘where do I start?” phase. A good way to plan is to work from the largest area of the room to the smallest. For example, start with the wall color, then floors, furniture, lighting, art and accessories. Once you have your plan, then try to stick to it, because moving away from your plan is the fastest way to blow your budget!
